Squarespace to Google Merchant Center
How to prepare a Squarespace catalog for Merchant Center, which is the data layer behind Google's shopping surfaces.
Google's AI Mode and Gemini shopping experiences depend on Merchant Center product data. A Squarespace site can look finished to a shopper and still be thin to a feed. The work is to make each product a row with a stable id, a public URL, an image, a price, and a real availability.
Start with the product page
Confirm the page returns over HTTPS, names one product, and shows the price in the HTML. Add Product JSON-LD if the template does not already. Include an Offer with price, priceCurrency, and availability. Use at least two images and write alt text. If the canonical tag points at a different URL than the one you share, pick one URL and keep it.
Build the feed
A Merchant Center feed typically wants id, title, description, link, image_link, availability, price, and brand. Price looks like 42.00 USD. Availability is in_stock, out_of_stock, preorder, or backorder. Add GTIN or MPN when the manufacturer assigned one. Do not generate a barcode to fill the cell.
Squarespace may not expose a Shopify-style products.json. Export from the commerce tools you already use, or assemble the file from the product pages. Then submit it in Merchant Center and fix the diagnostics Merchant Center actually reports. A CartReady score is a reading of the public site. It is not the Merchant Center account.
Policies
Link shipping, return, privacy, and terms pages from the footer. Return information also belongs in structured data when you publish a real policy. An FAQ mention is weaker than a page of its own.
After the feed is live
Check the public pages again. If a crawler is blocked in robots.txt, Merchant Center can still have a feed, but other agents may not be able to open the product URL. Allow Googlebot, and decide separately whether training crawlers are welcome.
Nothing here places a product in AI Mode. Merchant Center approval and a high audit score are both short of a guarantee. Refresh prices and stock on the schedule Google asks for, and scan the site again when the template changes.
